When Should I drop off and pick up my dancer?
What does 'Intensive' mean and how is this Program different?
Enrollment into our Intensive Programs is not based purely on age, but on dancers' individual technical abilities, attitude, and motivation in class and rehearsals. The purpose of the Intensive Program is to have a more committed, competitive, and pre-professional environment for dancers showing promise and motivation, as well as willing to commit to a full dance schedule - compared to our recreational Programs having no schedule/class requirements and enrollment based on age. Each level of Intensive has class and performance requirements dancers must meet, if you would like to learn more about these you can click "Programs & Registration" at the top and click the "See Programs" button under Fall to Spring Intensive Programs. Our Intensive Program progresses from level 1 to 4, and at the end of each season dancers receive an emailed recommendation from our instructors as to which level to enroll into for the coming year (again based on dancer's individual technical abilities, attitude, and motivation as observed by instructors).
Please Note: Classes with 'Intensive' in the name are for dancers in the according Intensive level only - to enroll into any Intensive class you must receive recommendation from an NLSD instructor.
How are decisions made as to what dance level students are placed in?
For enrolling into our non-Intensive Programs, please choose based on your dancers age by our age cut-off deadline of September 30. Although we ask families to initially enroll based on age, we consider a mix of other criteria including: technique, attitude, skill development, and years of dance training. Because of this, once dancers are initially in a level they aren't guaranteed to move to a higher level the following dance season - or to stay in that level for the current one! For our Tap, Acro, and Broadway classes almost everyone begins in level "1" and will be recommended to move up to 2 or 3 by the instructors as their skills progress.
To enroll into our Intensive Program, dancer's must receive NLSD instructor recommendation for both the Program itself and level number. If you have questions regarding class placement or you are unsure of your dancer's level, please click "Contact us!" above!
