With creative, vibrant, and dynamic choreography, NLSD dancers have captivated audiences with their high-spirited energy at performances and festivals throughout Whitehorse, the territory, and at national and international events.
The Nutcracker (by audition) – December 4-6, 2010 in Dawson and December 9-11, 2010 at the Yukon Arts Centre in Whitehorse
Approximately 50 students are selected through auditions to participate
in this annual Christmas performance. Auditions are held in September
for a full production of the Nutcracker at the Yukon Arts Centre.
Chosen students must represent the standards of the school both
technically and ethically. Students selected will be expected to attend
a number of rehearsals for the production.
Year-End Recital May 13 & 14, 2011
NLSD feels that it is important for students to have a tangible goal to
work towards, which will help them develop a sense of pride and
dedication to their work. To this end, NLSD produces a year-end
recital, involving all students. Any student who does not wish to
perform, or who is going to be away during any performance, must notify
the instructor(s) as soon as possible.
Other Performances (by invitation)
Occasionally some students are invited to participate in and represent
the school at performances and festivals around Whitehorse and the
territory. These dancers are selected by instructors to provide
showcases for Whitehorse youth, and to act as positive role models for
other youth organizations throughout the territory. Dancers who exhibit
excellence in their respective dance disciplines and a commitment to
sharing with and learning from others will be selected to dance.
